Can a chiropractor help with hip and pelvic concerns?
Chiropractors commonly assess how the hips and pelvis move as part of musculoskeletal care. At Restored Living, your first visit focuses on understanding what's going on — your history, how your hips, pelvis and lower back move, and how load travels through your legs and feet. If chiropractic care is appropriate, we'll explain the options. If something needs a different kind of care, we'll tell you and help you get it.

What people often describe
- Hip stiffness after sitting, driving or first thing in the morning
- A feeling that one side of the pelvis sits differently from the other
- Discomfort around the hip or buttock with walking, running or stairs
- Tightness through the front of the hip or groin
What we may assess
Every assessment is guided by your presentation. For hip and pelvic function it may include:
- Your history — onset, activity, sport, pregnancy and past injuries
- Hip range of motion and how the pelvis moves
- How your lower back moves alongside your hips
- Standing posture and how weight travels through your legs and feet
- Walking and simple movement tests, where appropriate
Looking beyond the hip
Hip and pelvic discomfort is the starting point — and we take it seriously. Alongside it, we consider posture, structure and movement through the lower back, legs and feet as parts of the broader picture. We want to understand how your body is adapting before we recommend anything, and we'll refer on where hip findings suggest imaging or another practitioner. Read about our approach.
When to seek urgent medical care
Hip and pelvic discomfort is usually not serious, but some symptoms need prompt medical attention. Contact your GP, call 000 or go to the nearest emergency department if hip pain comes with:
- Inability to stand or bear weight after a fall or injury
- A hot, red or swollen joint, especially with fever
- Sudden severe pain, or a leg that looks shortened or turned out
- Numbness around the groin or buttocks, or changes in bladder or bowel control
- Unexplained weight loss, night pain that doesn't ease, or a history of cancer

Common questions
Is hip pain sometimes coming from the back?
It can be. The lower back, pelvis and hip are closely related, and discomfort can be felt in one area while another is involved. Part of the assessment is looking at them together.
Do you see people during or after pregnancy?
Yes. Pelvic changes are common during and after pregnancy. We'll take a careful history, use comfortable positioning and work alongside your midwife, GP or obstetrician.
What if I need a scan?
Imaging isn't routine. If your findings suggest an X-ray or other investigation would be useful, we'll explain why and help arrange it.
