Can a chiropractor help if I sit at a desk all day?
Chiropractors commonly see people whose work keeps them seated for long periods. At Restored Living, your first visit focuses on understanding what's going on — your history, your working day, how you move, and how posture may relate to any discomfort you're noticing. Posture is one part of a broader assessment, not the whole story. If chiropractic care is appropriate, we'll explain the options, along with practical changes you may want to try at work.

What people often describe
- Neck and shoulder tightness that builds through the working day
- A stiff lower back when standing up after a long meeting or drive
- Feeling hunched or rounded, especially by the end of the week
- Headaches or eye strain after long screen sessions
What we may assess
Every assessment is guided by your presentation. For desk workers it may include:
- Your history — hours seated, workstation, laptop or phone use, exercise and sleep
- Standing and seated posture, viewed from the front and side
- How your neck, upper back, lower back and hips move
- Neurological checks in the arms or legs, where appropriate
- How you move between positions through the day
Looking beyond the desk
Your working posture is the starting point — and we take it seriously. But posture is one part of a broader assessment, alongside structure, movement and how you function day to day. Bodies adapt to long hours seated in different ways, and understanding your pattern comes before recommending anything. Read about our approach.
When to seek medical advice
Desk-related discomfort is usually not serious, but some symptoms need prompt medical attention. Contact your GP, call 000 or go to the nearest emergency department if you notice:
- Numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms or hands that is worsening
- Dropping things, or difficulty with fine hand movements
- Sudden severe headache, dizziness, or changes in vision or speech
- Chest pain, or pain spreading into the arm or jaw — call 000
- Pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, or night pain that doesn't ease

Common questions
Is there a "correct" posture?
Not one that suits everyone. Bodies vary, and staying in any one position for hours can feel uncomfortable. We look at your posture as one piece of information and talk about what may suit you.
Will you give me workstation advice?
Where it's relevant, yes. We may suggest simple changes to your set-up, breaks and movement habits that fit around your working day.
Do I need to have pain to book?
No. Some people book because they want to understand how their body is adapting to desk work. We'll explain your findings and options, and you decide what suits you.
