Can a chiropractor help with neck pain and stiffness?
Chiropractors commonly assess and manage neck pain and stiffness. At Restored Living, your first visit focuses on understanding what's going on — your history, how your neck and upper back move, and how posture and other areas may relate to your concern. If chiropractic care is appropriate, we'll explain the options. If something needs a different kind of care, we'll tell you and help you get it.

What people often describe
- Difficulty turning the head — reversing the car or checking over a shoulder
- Stiffness on waking, sometimes after sleeping in an awkward position
- An ache that builds through the day at a desk, laptop or phone
- Tightness that spreads into the tops of the shoulders
What we may assess
Every assessment is guided by your presentation. For neck pain and stiffness it may include:
- Your history — onset, aggravating and easing factors, work, sleep, sport and past injuries
- How your neck rotates, bends and extends, and where movement feels restricted
- Head and shoulder posture, and how you sit and stand
- Neurological checks such as reflexes, sensation and strength in the arms, where appropriate
- How neighbouring regions, like the upper back, shoulders and jaw, are moving
Looking beyond the neck
Neck pain is the starting point — and we take it seriously. Alongside it, we consider posture, structure and movement as parts of the broader picture. The neck sits on top of the upper back and shoulders, so how those areas are adapting is worth understanding before we recommend anything. Read about our approach.
When to seek urgent medical care
Neck pain is usually not serious, but some symptoms need prompt medical attention. Contact your GP, call 000 or go to the nearest emergency department if neck pain comes with:
- A sudden, severe headache — the "worst ever"
- Neck pain following a fall, collision or other significant trauma
- Dizziness, double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, or facial numbness
- New or worsening weakness, numbness or clumsiness in the arms or hands
- Fever with neck stiffness, or feeling generally very unwell

Common questions
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor for neck pain?
No — you can book directly. If you've had scans or seen another practitioner, bring any reports along.
Is neck adjusting the only option?
No. There are a range of approaches, including gentle low-force techniques. We'll explain what we suggest and why, and you're always welcome to ask questions or decline any technique.
Could my pillow or desk set-up be playing a part?
Possibly. Sleep position and workstation habits are part of what we ask about, and where it's relevant we'll talk through practical adjustments you can make at home or work.
